Ride this Sun...

12-5-11: Here's our Dec. schedule, as a reminder!

Dec. 11, 9:00 AM
Dec. 18, 1:30 PM

Hope to see you out there--let's burn some of those holiday calories off!!! ;-)

Great 1st afternoon ride! Dec schedule...

11-29-11: We had a great weather for our 1st afternoon ride of the season. Saw long-time member Jeanne F. on this ride (she's been riding with us for over 10 years! We did a triathlon together way back in '01 or so, so it was good to see her again.)

Check out our pictures in my Facebook album (you don't need to be in FB to see pixs).

TCF regular Shawndra was there, and a whole bunch of girls and families joined us as well, as you can see in the pictures.

Look forward to more afternoon rides on the 4th Sun. of each month while the weather is cool.

DEC. SCHEDULE

2nd Sun, Dec. 11 - now that it's cooler, several have asked if we could move the AM ride an hour later, so our "meet" time is at 9:00 AM instead of 8:00 AM starting Dec. 11. That'll give some of you an extra hour to sleep in (like my daughter!)

CHANGE to 3rd Sun, Dec. 18, 1:30 PM
- since the 4th Sun. is Christmas Day, I didn't want to compete with that (even though I'm still going to ride that day ;-) I'm moving the scheduled ride to the 3rd Sun. Please note this change!

Hope to see you out there sometime, either for our AM or PM or both rides! ;-) If you're like me, you have plenty of calories to burn off from the holidays.

CU on the bike path soon!

Dr. Ernie
TCF Director

ps. On the "off" scheduled days, I still ride on Sundays on the dirt at Hulda Crooks Park, usually in the AMs, so if you want to join in, just text me for last-minute details (909-747-5935).

Nov. 13 ride is "FREE" for all!; Afternoon ride...

11-10-11: Due to the Mission Inn run and the closure of the Santa Ana River Trail bike path near Mt. Rubidoux (the turnaround point for the half marathon is on the bike path), and because some of us will be running in the Mission Inn run, the organized ride for this Sun. is FREE (i.e. you can ride wherever you want).

Afternoon rides to start Nov. 27!

Now that it's nice and cool, we will begin rides in the afternoon at 1:30 PM so we get done well before sunset.

Now here's the question: should we do afernoon rides on ONE or BOTH of the Sundays while it's cool? I think I can set up a survey for this to the right, so if you see a survey, go ahead and click your preference. If you don't see a survey, e-mail one of the following choices to teamcyclefit@gmail.com:

a. 2nd Sun. AM; 4th Sun. PM
b. Both 2nd and 4th Suns in afternoon
c. Either a or b is fine, I can ride both times

Thanks!

Gorgeous ride!

10-23-11: It was a beautiful day for a ride--perfect temps, no wind. We had the pleasure of having Cyclery USA's GM Jon who joined us and did a few tune-ups. Got to ride with him quite a bit and learned all about his life before Cyclery USA.

Besides the usual regular riders, I let another couple ride my tandem because Elena crashed hard on her mountain bike a few days earlier and was still healing, so we figured that she could ride the tandem and reduce pressure on her right shoulder. Check out the pixs to see how she and her hubby Paul did!

Also had John Choi do another training run for the Mission Inn Half while his wife Nanci rode her mtn. bike (wise choice!). He was running 10 miles, so we were surprised to catch him on the way back. Turns out his knee was hurting as was his hip, so he decided to do the 10K instead! Guess our mantra, "10K is OK" finally sunk in....LOL!!!

Speaking of the Mission Inn Run, it's on Nov. 13, which happens to be the 2nd Sun of the month so a number of us will be running on the SART bike path in that event. In fact, you won't be able to ride all the way to Mt. Rubidoux because the path will be closed for the event (blocked by an ambulance), so you won't be able to go our usual distance. That might be a good day to do your own ride somewhere else like at the beach or mountains!

Enjoy the pictures!

Team Possabilities rides same time!

9-20-11: Hello all! If you've been out lately, you've seen some hand cyclists on the bike path at the same time we are. Well they have now made it official...and have invited us to "join them"! They have a nice big EZ up tent, and it's well-stocked with food, water, etc.!

They park in the back, usually, for more room, so why don't we meet up in back this time so we can be closer to to them and join them?

BTW, this Sun, the 4th Sun. of Sept. (25th), I will be flying back from Portland, OR that AM, so I will NOT be there. All the more reason to join up with Team Possabilities since they have support for their riders.

Robert Sandholm, a good friend of mine, is the leader of that group, and I told him to watch out for TCF riders as well.

So let's start meeting in back with them. They meet at 7:30 AM, and head out on the bike path at 8:00 AM, so don't be late!

Here's their announcement they just sent out:

Join the PossAbilities Handcycle & Bike Rides
now taking place the
2nd & 4th Sunday of each month
@ 7:30 a.m.

We meet in the parking lot at the following location:

Souplantation
228 W. Hospitality Ln. # H
San Bernardino, CA 92408

Riders will leave at 8:00 a.m. on the bike trail in San Bernardino,
head toward Riverside, and return to San Bernardino.
No cars to worry about and you choose the distance you want to ride.
Ride 2 miles, 10 miles, or even 25+ miles….all at your own pace.

Light energy boosting snacks, water, and air tire service will be provided.

It’s great for the entire family!

We welcome able bodied cyclists to join us for support on this ride.

For questions, please contact Robert Sandholm at
(951) 529-8997 or rsandholm@gmail.com.

Cool temps on 9/11

9/11/11 - On this special day, we had cool temps and cloud cover that made it nice for riding. Because I forgot my memory card in my camera, I could only take a few pictures!

Team PossAbilities also ride on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, so we have company!

The Kelly Bros riding larger bikes with skinny tires for the first time--they flew!

Jordan's first time to ride to Mt. Rubi

He's also a model for Kenneth Cole!

Nanci was my stoker while her hubby John ran 10 miles that AM, despite us telling him, "10K is OK!" (Now I have to run a half marathon in Nov. with him...ugh!)

Oct. 9 - Sign up for Riverside Citris ride

9-6-11: Oct. 9 is the 2nd Sun. in Oct., and as I had stated earlier, there is this local ride that is happening that day. So instead of our usual ride on SART, I will be riding in this event.

I said I was going to ride the 49-mile ride, but I haven't really trained for that distance, and I don't care to ride up Central Ave./Allesandro, so I'm going to sign up for the 28-mile ride instead.
For those of you who have been training for the 50, more power to you! I will be riding the tandem most likely (if I can con someone into joining me!) so the 28-mile will be a good ride for us.
I hope that you can join us on this event! I wish we had team t-shirts or something to signify who we are, but maybe next time! LOL!
To get more info or to print out a registration form, go to: http://www.riversideca.gov/citrusclassic/
In the meantime, our next ride is THIS Sun., 9/11! (Whoa, a memorable date). Let's ride in honor of their memories. It may still be hot, so if anyone wants to ride earlier like the last Sun. ride, feel free. I plan to leave right at 8:00 AM from Souplantation parking lot so don't be late!!! Want to beat the heat. ;-)

Hot but ride still goes on!

8/31/11 Last Sun was HOT!!! Nevertheless, TCF hit the SART with a pretty large group, despite the heat. Had 3 different waves leave, those with younger kids left earlier to have more time. Check out the group that made it to Mt. Rubidoux!

Double dirt Sunday!

8-21-11: Gorgeous day for a mtn. bike ride! Had Bill and his son show up early for the 6:30 AM ride. You can see him in the pixs there. He did great!!!

Then we had an 8:00 AM group show up so Roxy and I got to go again! Tina did a great job compared to her first mtn. bike TCF ride a couple of Sundays ago.

Here are some pixs!

Dirt ride THIS Sun!

8-19-11: We're doing another dirt ride again!!! I might as well make it official, since we ride pretty much every Sunday, so unless otherwise noted, plan on the following dirt rides:

When: 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays, Meet around 6:15; leave for trail @ 6:30 AM

Where: Hulda Crooks Park (I park next to tennis courts)
Hulda Crooks park is at the south end of Mountain View, in Loma Linda.

What: Beginner-friendly 2.3 mile loop.

Who: Anyone who wants to try dirt, especially if they are new to it!

Special: If someone is interested in riding on my mtn. bike tandem with me (certain height limitation on the back, unfortunately), let me know and I can bring that out.

Contact inf0: Cell - 909-747-5935

Helmets: Mandatory, but I do have 3 loaner helmets should you forget yours!

Already have a few newbies riding, so feel free to join us!

TCF on the SART

8-14-11: Some shots from our ride today. Had quite a few mechanicals that fortunately, I was able to fix! LOL! Good time by all, and most of us feasted at Souplantation!

First dirt!

8-7-11: This was our first "official" off-road mtn. bike ride that was not on the schedule. The boys didn't care for the climb much, but when we reached the top, they really enjoyed the downhill!

We hope to have more dirt rides so stay tuned!

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Trail work!

8-11-11: A couple of Sundays ago (when it rained!), I took the opp to do some trail work on a section of a path that had gotten very narrow---about 5-inches wide at it's narrowest spot! With the drop off on the left side, it made it very challenging for newbie mtn. bikers to ride or even walk across with their bikes.

Now, it's a couple of feet wide and level! While working on it, I had hikers thank me for doing this! LOL!

If you'd like to join in the next trail work day, I'd be happy to have some company! ;-)

SART ride this Sun, Aug. 14

Hi TCF riders,

Just a reminder that we're riding this Sunday, Aug.14, 8:00 AM, from Souplantation parking lot. Hope you can join us!

Not sure if the Choi's will be coming, but if they do, I will most likely be on the tandem with broken-arm-stoker Nathan. See if you can keep up this time, now that I switched out the slick tires with 2.2 knobby off-road tires! (That's ok, I need to burn more kcals!)

IF the Choi's aren't coming, then I'll either ride my single big OR if someone else (child or adult) wants to ride as my stoker, then I'll bring the tandem. First come first serve! ;-) I give preference to those who have some kind of physical limitation and could use the help.

Here's the Souplantation link for coupons if you decide to join us for brunch afterwards:

http://garden-fresh.s3.amazonaws.com/emails/aug2011/email-coupons-A-texas.html

Hope to see you there! And feel free to bring your family and friends. ;-)

Unscheduled DIRT ride this Sun!!!

Hi Team Cyclefit riders,

This is the FIRST Sun. of the month, so it's off our scheduled bike path ride...BUT that doesn't mean we can't ride! If anyone wants to ride in the DIRT, then you're more than welcome to join my daughter and I. (She's 14 y/o so you know we aren't going on anything gnarly!). If you're a beginner, this is a great place to learn mtn. biking. I'll have all the tools, first aid, cell phone, etc. so if anything happens (which it won't!), you'll be ok.

Here are the details. Come on out if you have a mtn. bike and want to join in some fun in the dirt!!!

Who: Team CycleFit riders, friends, BMG/Epic employees, beginner mountain bikers welcome
When: Sun, Aug. 7
Time: 8:08 AM (my daughter wants 8:30 AM so it'll be between 8 and 8:30 AM! LOL!)
Where: Hulda Crooks Park - I park at the tennis courts near the b-ball courts, but most park at the start of the trail, past the small dog park. If you don't know where Hulda Crooks Park is, just exit off Mountain View in Loma Linda, head South (away from the mountains) and go all the way on it and you'll go right into Hulda Crooks Park!
What: Mtn. bike ride on fire roads--no scary single track (well just one small part, but I widened it for beginners to ride! :-) About a 3 mile loop, so not long at all. Has some good climbs and fun downhills (you can walk down if it's too steep for your comfort level; I lower Summer's seat down so she feels more confident going downhill)

If you get lost, or need something, feel free to call me on my cell: 909-747-5935. I'm up at 5:00 AM so feel free to call me anytime after that.

Hope to see some of our TCF riders there this Sunday!!!

Cyclery USA-Redlands donates helmets!

7-29-11: A BIG thanks to Cyclery USA-Redland's general manager, Jon, for donating 3 brand new helmets to Team CycleFit to use as loaners. That was a nice surprise!

At our last ride, we had a couple of newbies join us and they didn't have helmets. TCF strongly encourages the use of helmets, but we don't enforce or make anyone wear one since it's a public bike path and you ride at your own risk.

One of our regular riders, Elena, actually had her helmet but lent it to her younger sister, Tina, who was riding with us for the first time and didn't own a helmet. Way to go, Elena, for sacrificing your safety for her sister's sake!

Afterwards, I thought I should probably get some helmets to use as loaners so when I went to bring in the tandem later that afternoon for a maintenance service (after 5 years of dis-use, thought it prudent to do so since more kids want to do our rides with me on that rig!), I asked Jon if he had any used or older model helmets that I could buy at a discount.

Instead of that, he said he would just donate 3 helmets to Team CycleFit instead! That was more than I expected, and appreciated that because I'm still working on setting up TCF as a non-profit so we can have dues and sponsorship funds going to a budget to cover things like this (instead of Bank of Medina...LOL!).

That's why I encourage all our TCF riders to support your local businesses like Cyclery USA, because they support TCF!

Thx again, Jon and Cyclery USA!

Tandem makes rare appearance!

7-24-11: A gorgeous AM for a bike ride! The temp was pleasant as well--not too hot for starting just after 8 AM.

Check out the pixs...you'll see some regulars and new faces (some sore "sit bones" today!). You'll also see my mtn. bike tandem out for the first time on the bike path. Nathan, the son of some close friends, broke his arm, so this was the only way he could join us! So I dusted off our tandem, get it fixed up, and away Team Ninja went! We were a missle, averaging 20+ miles/hour and whipping by people! LOL! Nathan loved it! Will probably bring that out more now. Going to bring it in to Cyclery USA to get overhauled since it's been awhile since it's been ridden and maintained!

Stay tuned for our next ride on Aug. 14!

July 18 ride 8:00 AM

Just a reminder that we'll be riding THIS Sun., July 18, at 8:00 AM from the Souplantation parking lot. One nice thing is that we get back in plenty of time for the brunch there! Great place to glycogen-reload after that ride.

Hope to see you there bright and early! Maybe I can get my daughter out of bed in time to make it this time! LOL!

Gorgeous day for ride this AM!

7-10-11: Despite the record heat earlier this week, today's temps at 7:45 AM was very nice and pleasant! So the whole ride it never got too hot, which was good.

Here are some pixs from our ride, featuring several first-time cyclists with TCF.

6:30 AM OUT...8:00 AM is IN!!!

And the vote said...8:00 AM!!! Thanks to all those who voted.
This means we will start on the bike path at 8:00 AM, so get there beforehand based on how much time you need to get your bike and gear together.
For those planning on eating at Souplantation afterwards...coupons for Sunday!
CU Sunday AM at Souplantation parking lot! And don't forget your water.

Complaints about the 6:30 AM time!

7-5-11: Ok, the main complainer about the 6:30 AM time is my daughter! So decided to take a vote of those planning on riding this Sun. Please send your vote to the e-mail on the right side. Thanks!

1. 8:00 AM ride
2. 7:30 AM ride
3. 6:30 AM ride
4. Doesn't matter, will ride any time!

Again, please reply ONLY if you're serious about coming out this Sunday--I want to base the ride on the vote. I can do #4, so we'll see what the majority rules!

Thanks!

Beat the HEAT!!! Starting July 10 ride...

7-4-11: Happy 4th to all! Hope you're staying cool and safe out there this holiday weekend. Sizzling temps in the forecast. Went for a mtn. bike ride this AM at 6:30 AM and by 7:00 AM, it was already hot!!!

So I'm thinking that we may need to make a DRASTIC change to the schedule and leave a LOT earlier in the AM to beat the heat. I don't want anyone having a heat stroke while out on Team CycleFit rides, so here's what I'm thinking:

We meet at 6:30 AM and leave by 6:45 AM! That would be for BOTH the bike path rides and the mountain bike rides.

I know that's very early, especially if you have kids, but it's just getting too hot out there and risky to be out exercising after 8:00 AM so I'm going to make this schedule change, starting with our July 10 ride.

So in summary, here's our schedule:

ROAD/PAVED BIKE PATH
Where: Bike Path behind Souplantation
Dates: July 10, July 24 (2nd and 4th Sundays of each month)
Time: Meet - 6:30 AM, leave by 6:45 AM onto path

OFF-ROAD/DIRT FIRE ROADS
Where: Hulda Crooks Park (Exit Mountain View off I-10, head South (away from mountains. Mountain View leads right into Hulda Crooks Park, head left to lower parking lot...I park next to tennis courts tho there is parking at start of trailhead)
Dates: Most weekday AMs, non-bike path Sundays (Check twitter or text (909-747-5935) me around 6:00 AM to confirm if I'm going that AM)
Time: Meet - 6:30 AM; leave when ready!
Level of ride: Beginner - we go up Scott's Ridge, loop about 2.5 miles. Will give tips on how to ride in the dirt if you're new to off-road riding.

I bring Roxy, our bigger dog, on these rides, so if you have pets, feel free!

Feel free to join us on the paved path or the dirt-both are fun!

Have a safe and happy 4th!!!

6-12-11 Ride

6-12-11: Graduation day for LLU and other schools today! Even so, we had a group of regulars show up, along with 2 new cyclists and members to TCF show up: Elena and Bill! They were also sporting brand new bikes, so this was the inauguration for both bicycle and rider.

Check out the pics in the slide show and see how they did!

Next Ride: Sunday, June 26, 8:30 AM. I will be coming back from Honduras that day, so won't be there at the ride, but I hope that there are enough regulars that show up that can help get things going in my absence! Maybe I'll have to remind Jason to show up and see if someone from Cyclery USA can be there for sure. ;-)

Getting dirty on other Sundays!
If you like to ride off road, in the dirt, then be sure to check this site or better yet, get on Twitter and get my tweets when I'll be riding last-minute in the hills! Unless I'm otherwise booked up, I usually like to take Roxy on a mtn. bike ride in the AM before it gets too hot (tho it's been cool lately). So if you're wondering if I'm riding in the AM, text or e-mail me the night before, or stay tuned to a tweet if I'm going to hit the dirt with my Klein and Roxy!

Oct. 9, Riverside Citrus Classic
I've always wanted to do a 50-mile ride, and this may be the best chance to do a supported one, for only $45 and helps 2 non-profit charities (Riverside Educational Enrichmen Foundation & the Alvord Educational Foundation).

Oct. 9 happens to fall on the 2nd Sun. of Oct., so this could take the place of are usual ride! If you're interested in doing this, I will make a special e-mail list and keep in touch with you and maybe we can have some extra rides or go further as we build up and train for this ride. I haven't ridden this far before, so will be looking for a training plan, just like they have for doing a half or full marathon.

So let me know if you're interested in having this as a goal because now is a great time to start training!!!

For more info on this ride, go to: http://www.active.com/cycling/riverside-ca/riverside-citrus-classic-fun-bike-rides-2011.

Thx again for all those who come out, and I hope you have a good showing on June 26--someone take some pictures! I'll think of you all as I'm flying back from Honduras!

All AMs starting in June

Last Sunday
5-24-11: Unfortunately, I was tied up with my daughter's piano recital last Sun. afternoon, so I didn't make it out to the ride--the first one I've missed! Anyway, I hope some of you got to enjoy the ride--who went? Let me know how it went.
While it's unseasonably cool (love it!) for May, I'm thinking that by the 4th Sun. in June, it'll be blazing hot in the afternoon, so starting with the June rides, they will both be in at 8:30 AM/leave by 9:00 AM. We may actually even move that earlier if it starts getting hot, so mighit be meet at 8:00 AM and leave by 8:30 AM, so we'll see. I'll post it on the blog.
Next rides: June 12 & 26, 8:30 AM meet, head out at 9:00 AM
I will be returning from a mission trip to Honduras on June 26, so will miss that. If anyone is planning on doing that ride and would be willing to be the "host" for the group, please let me know. Thanks!

April 24 Easter - In case of rain...

If it's raining, as is TCF's policy, the ride will be officially cancelled, though if you still want to ride, that's fine by me! I personally don't like riding in the rain (even though it's spitting right now and I'm bringing Roxy on a mtn. bike ride for her sake!), so if it's raining or the bike path is very wet, our ride is officially off.

If it's iffy, I will be there at 3:30 PM and we'll make a final call then.

Whatever you do, be safe!

Gorgeous AM ride!

4-10-11: After rain as recent as Friday, Sun. was gorgeous! Perfect temp and weather. There was a big running race (Run through Redlands) going on this AM as well, but we still had a good group, thanks to Carol Kelly inviting some other families to join us.

Check out the pictures in this slide show:

Next ride: April 24, 3:30 PM

Perfect temp for afternoon ride!

3-30-11: Last Sunday's afternoon ride saw perfect temps (compared to the "cool" weather the last time we rode in the afternoon). The time change certainly helped!

Check out some pixs from our FB album HERE.

We'll have TCF fliers at the Redlands Classic this weekend--at the Beaver Medical Group booth and a couple of interns will be passing out fliers during the Sat. AM public races to families to help promote the club.

CU at our next ride, APRIL 10, at 8:30 AM!

Sunday, March 6, 2011

Next ride: March 27

3-6-11: Just a reminder that our next ride will be on the regularly scheduled 4th Sun., March 27, 3:30 PM, meeting at Souplantation parking lot. This is just before the Redlands Classic so get pumped up for that and ride!

3-6-11 ride with 2 new riders!

3-6-11: Had an "off-schedule" ride on the first Sun. of this month, resulting in a smaller-than-usual group but never-the-less, we still had a nice core group of people riding with us.

We also had 2 people join us for the first time, Nancy M., (left) who I used to play Ultimate Frisbee with almost 10 years ago, and David (right), who found our blog by googling us. Unfortunately, Nancy had some mechanical difficulties that were un-fixable so she had to walk back to her car (she's planning on getting a new bike now!).

Here's an interesting sign I found near Mt. Rubidoux. Gives you an idea of what destinations are on this Santa Ana bike path.

I hope we have the same gorgeous weather we had this AM for the Blue Mountain city-sponsored hike in Grand Terrace next Sun., March 13, at 8:00 AM (end of Palm Ave. and Honey Hill Dr.). Hope to see you there!

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

March ride dates (slight change)

3-2-11: Due to the Blue Mountain Hike (8:00 AM, Grand Terrace, corner of Palm Ave. and Honey Hill Drive) on March 13, our AM ride will be on the FIRST Sun. this month, March 6, 8:30 AM. Please note the change from our usual 2nd Sun. schedule.

Our afternoon ride will be the usual 4th Sun., March 27, 3:30 PM.

Hope you can join us on both the rides and the Blue Mountain Hike on the 13th!

1st afternoon ride!

2-27-11: Enjoyed our first afternoon ride. Great to see so many kids on this ride, even though it took a bit longer than anticipated (last group came in after sunset...brrrrr!) The brown rice and pinto bean soup at Souplantation was a great way to warm up!

Check out the short video of our ride. Enjoy and hope to see you on our next ride in March!

Afternoon ride rained out!

1-30-11: Our first afternoon ride was rained out! After a gorgeous week of weather, it would have to rain today. Go figure! Guess it wasn't meant to be.

I'd like to thank Ramon Gonzalez, the Operation's Manager for Cyclery USA, and his son, for showing up right on time and hanging out there till a bit after 4 PM. We talked underneath the back door of his minivan out of the rain, just in case TCF members showed up. No one did, so shortly after 4 PM, I called it cancelled and we parted ways.

We'll try again for our first afternoon ride next time, Feb. 27!

Our next ride will be the 2nd Sun. (after Superbowl Sunday), on Feb. 13, meeting at 8:30 AM and leaving for the trail at 9:00 AM. Hope you can join us and that it's nice weather!

Our 1st ride!

1-2-10: Team Cycle Fit took it's first ride in 2011 after a break of over 5 years! Thx to Cyclery USA's Craig Kundig and Jason for coming out and providing support. Depsite the cool weather and threatening forecast for rain, we had some brave souls show up and ride with us. Check out the pixs!

Stay tuned for our next ride, January 16, on the bike path again. (8:00 bike check/8:30 leave for ride).

Great way to start the new year!
