Cyclery USA-Redlands donates helmets!

7-29-11: A BIG thanks to Cyclery USA-Redland's general manager, Jon, for donating 3 brand new helmets to Team CycleFit to use as loaners. That was a nice surprise!

At our last ride, we had a couple of newbies join us and they didn't have helmets. TCF strongly encourages the use of helmets, but we don't enforce or make anyone wear one since it's a public bike path and you ride at your own risk.

One of our regular riders, Elena, actually had her helmet but lent it to her younger sister, Tina, who was riding with us for the first time and didn't own a helmet. Way to go, Elena, for sacrificing your safety for her sister's sake!

Afterwards, I thought I should probably get some helmets to use as loaners so when I went to bring in the tandem later that afternoon for a maintenance service (after 5 years of dis-use, thought it prudent to do so since more kids want to do our rides with me on that rig!), I asked Jon if he had any used or older model helmets that I could buy at a discount.

Instead of that, he said he would just donate 3 helmets to Team CycleFit instead! That was more than I expected, and appreciated that because I'm still working on setting up TCF as a non-profit so we can have dues and sponsorship funds going to a budget to cover things like this (instead of Bank of Medina...LOL!).

That's why I encourage all our TCF riders to support your local businesses like Cyclery USA, because they support TCF!

Thx again, Jon and Cyclery USA!

Tandem makes rare appearance!

7-24-11: A gorgeous AM for a bike ride! The temp was pleasant as well--not too hot for starting just after 8 AM.

Check out the pixs...you'll see some regulars and new faces (some sore "sit bones" today!). You'll also see my mtn. bike tandem out for the first time on the bike path. Nathan, the son of some close friends, broke his arm, so this was the only way he could join us! So I dusted off our tandem, get it fixed up, and away Team Ninja went! We were a missle, averaging 20+ miles/hour and whipping by people! LOL! Nathan loved it! Will probably bring that out more now. Going to bring it in to Cyclery USA to get overhauled since it's been awhile since it's been ridden and maintained!

Stay tuned for our next ride on Aug. 14!

July 18 ride 8:00 AM

Just a reminder that we'll be riding THIS Sun., July 18, at 8:00 AM from the Souplantation parking lot. One nice thing is that we get back in plenty of time for the brunch there! Great place to glycogen-reload after that ride.

Hope to see you there bright and early! Maybe I can get my daughter out of bed in time to make it this time! LOL!

Gorgeous day for ride this AM!

7-10-11: Despite the record heat earlier this week, today's temps at 7:45 AM was very nice and pleasant! So the whole ride it never got too hot, which was good.

Here are some pixs from our ride, featuring several first-time cyclists with TCF.

Complaints about the 6:30 AM time!

7-5-11: Ok, the main complainer about the 6:30 AM time is my daughter! So decided to take a vote of those planning on riding this Sun. Please send your vote to the e-mail on the right side. Thanks!

1. 8:00 AM ride
2. 7:30 AM ride
3. 6:30 AM ride
4. Doesn't matter, will ride any time!

Again, please reply ONLY if you're serious about coming out this Sunday--I want to base the ride on the vote. I can do #4, so we'll see what the majority rules!

Thanks!

Beat the HEAT!!! Starting July 10 ride...

7-4-11: Happy 4th to all! Hope you're staying cool and safe out there this holiday weekend. Sizzling temps in the forecast. Went for a mtn. bike ride this AM at 6:30 AM and by 7:00 AM, it was already hot!!!

So I'm thinking that we may need to make a DRASTIC change to the schedule and leave a LOT earlier in the AM to beat the heat. I don't want anyone having a heat stroke while out on Team CycleFit rides, so here's what I'm thinking:

We meet at 6:30 AM and leave by 6:45 AM! That would be for BOTH the bike path rides and the mountain bike rides.

I know that's very early, especially if you have kids, but it's just getting too hot out there and risky to be out exercising after 8:00 AM so I'm going to make this schedule change, starting with our July 10 ride.

So in summary, here's our schedule:

ROAD/PAVED BIKE PATH
Where: Bike Path behind Souplantation
Dates: July 10, July 24 (2nd and 4th Sundays of each month)
Time: Meet - 6:30 AM, leave by 6:45 AM onto path

OFF-ROAD/DIRT FIRE ROADS
Where: Hulda Crooks Park (Exit Mountain View off I-10, head South (away from mountains. Mountain View leads right into Hulda Crooks Park, head left to lower parking lot...I park next to tennis courts tho there is parking at start of trailhead)
Dates: Most weekday AMs, non-bike path Sundays (Check twitter or text (909-747-5935) me around 6:00 AM to confirm if I'm going that AM)
Time: Meet - 6:30 AM; leave when ready!
Level of ride: Beginner - we go up Scott's Ridge, loop about 2.5 miles. Will give tips on how to ride in the dirt if you're new to off-road riding.

I bring Roxy, our bigger dog, on these rides, so if you have pets, feel free!

Feel free to join us on the paved path or the dirt-both are fun!

Have a safe and happy 4th!!!
