Gorgeous day for ride this AM!

7-10-11: Despite the record heat earlier this week, today's temps at 7:45 AM was very nice and pleasant! So the whole ride it never got too hot, which was good.

Here are some pixs from our ride, featuring several first-time cyclists with TCF.

Complaints about the 6:30 AM time!

7-5-11: Ok, the main complainer about the 6:30 AM time is my daughter! So decided to take a vote of those planning on riding this Sun. Please send your vote to the e-mail on the right side. Thanks!

1. 8:00 AM ride
2. 7:30 AM ride
3. 6:30 AM ride
4. Doesn't matter, will ride any time!

Again, please reply ONLY if you're serious about coming out this Sunday--I want to base the ride on the vote. I can do #4, so we'll see what the majority rules!

Thanks!

Beat the HEAT!!! Starting July 10 ride...

7-4-11: Happy 4th to all! Hope you're staying cool and safe out there this holiday weekend. Sizzling temps in the forecast. Went for a mtn. bike ride this AM at 6:30 AM and by 7:00 AM, it was already hot!!!

So I'm thinking that we may need to make a DRASTIC change to the schedule and leave a LOT earlier in the AM to beat the heat. I don't want anyone having a heat stroke while out on Team CycleFit rides, so here's what I'm thinking:

We meet at 6:30 AM and leave by 6:45 AM! That would be for BOTH the bike path rides and the mountain bike rides.

I know that's very early, especially if you have kids, but it's just getting too hot out there and risky to be out exercising after 8:00 AM so I'm going to make this schedule change, starting with our July 10 ride.

So in summary, here's our schedule:

ROAD/PAVED BIKE PATH
Where: Bike Path behind Souplantation
Dates: July 10, July 24 (2nd and 4th Sundays of each month)
Time: Meet - 6:30 AM, leave by 6:45 AM onto path

OFF-ROAD/DIRT FIRE ROADS
Where: Hulda Crooks Park (Exit Mountain View off I-10, head South (away from mountains. Mountain View leads right into Hulda Crooks Park, head left to lower parking lot...I park next to tennis courts tho there is parking at start of trailhead)
Dates: Most weekday AMs, non-bike path Sundays (Check twitter or text (909-747-5935) me around 6:00 AM to confirm if I'm going that AM)
Time: Meet - 6:30 AM; leave when ready!
Level of ride: Beginner - we go up Scott's Ridge, loop about 2.5 miles. Will give tips on how to ride in the dirt if you're new to off-road riding.

I bring Roxy, our bigger dog, on these rides, so if you have pets, feel free!

Feel free to join us on the paved path or the dirt-both are fun!

Have a safe and happy 4th!!!

6-12-11 Ride

6-12-11: Graduation day for LLU and other schools today! Even so, we had a group of regulars show up, along with 2 new cyclists and members to TCF show up: Elena and Bill! They were also sporting brand new bikes, so this was the inauguration for both bicycle and rider.

Check out the pics in the slide show and see how they did!

Next Ride: Sunday, June 26, 8:30 AM. I will be coming back from Honduras that day, so won't be there at the ride, but I hope that there are enough regulars that show up that can help get things going in my absence! Maybe I'll have to remind Jason to show up and see if someone from Cyclery USA can be there for sure. ;-)

Getting dirty on other Sundays!
If you like to ride off road, in the dirt, then be sure to check this site or better yet, get on Twitter and get my tweets when I'll be riding last-minute in the hills! Unless I'm otherwise booked up, I usually like to take Roxy on a mtn. bike ride in the AM before it gets too hot (tho it's been cool lately). So if you're wondering if I'm riding in the AM, text or e-mail me the night before, or stay tuned to a tweet if I'm going to hit the dirt with my Klein and Roxy!

Oct. 9, Riverside Citrus Classic
I've always wanted to do a 50-mile ride, and this may be the best chance to do a supported one, for only $45 and helps 2 non-profit charities (Riverside Educational Enrichmen Foundation & the Alvord Educational Foundation).

Oct. 9 happens to fall on the 2nd Sun. of Oct., so this could take the place of are usual ride! If you're interested in doing this, I will make a special e-mail list and keep in touch with you and maybe we can have some extra rides or go further as we build up and train for this ride. I haven't ridden this far before, so will be looking for a training plan, just like they have for doing a half or full marathon.

So let me know if you're interested in having this as a goal because now is a great time to start training!!!

For more info on this ride, go to: http://www.active.com/cycling/riverside-ca/riverside-citrus-classic-fun-bike-rides-2011.

Thx again for all those who come out, and I hope you have a good showing on June 26--someone take some pictures! I'll think of you all as I'm flying back from Honduras!

All AMs starting in June

Last Sunday
5-24-11: Unfortunately, I was tied up with my daughter's piano recital last Sun. afternoon, so I didn't make it out to the ride--the first one I've missed! Anyway, I hope some of you got to enjoy the ride--who went? Let me know how it went.
While it's unseasonably cool (love it!) for May, I'm thinking that by the 4th Sun. in June, it'll be blazing hot in the afternoon, so starting with the June rides, they will both be in at 8:30 AM/leave by 9:00 AM. We may actually even move that earlier if it starts getting hot, so mighit be meet at 8:00 AM and leave by 8:30 AM, so we'll see. I'll post it on the blog.
Next rides: June 12 & 26, 8:30 AM meet, head out at 9:00 AM
I will be returning from a mission trip to Honduras on June 26, so will miss that. If anyone is planning on doing that ride and would be willing to be the "host" for the group, please let me know. Thanks!
